Sidoarjo - The Ministry of Public Works through the East Java-Bali National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) has completed the handling of damage to the Porong National Road section in Sidoarjo, East Java, which was affected by flooding on Monday (16/6/2025).

The flood occurred due to the overflow of Ketapang River due to high rainfall in the area around Porong. The overflow of water submerged the body of the Porong National Road with a height of about 50-70 cm along ± 300 meters, causing temporary closure of the Surabaya-Malang axis road access for 20 hours.

Based on the results of the post-flood field survey, several points of damage were found precisely on the Bts Sidoarjo - Gempol Km SBY 30+000 to 31+850. Handling has been carried out with the patching method by BBPJN East Java-Bali to restore road conditions quickly and maintain the smooth flow of traffic and logistics on the strategic route.

Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti directly visited the repair site on Friday (27/6/2025). She emphasized the importance of integration between road management and flood control so that the function of national road infrastructure remains optimal.

"Currently there are five retention ponds and six pumps that are alerted by the Sidoarjo Mud Control Center (PPLS) when there is flooding. Yesterday's flood was caused by heavy rains and the full moon tide, so the water could not be contained," said Deputy Minister Diana.

She also said that in addition to road improvements, it is necessary to strengthen the drainage system and water control capacity in the Porong area. “Further handling is needed, such as the addition of retention ponds and the provision of mobile pumps so that flooding does not occur again,” she continued.

Head of BBPJN East Java - Bali Gunadi Antariksa confirmed that the repair work on the Porong National Road has been completed. "The road closure was only for 20 hours during the flood, after which the road access was immediately reopened as usual while repairs were made at the point of damage. Now the traffic flow from Surabaya and Malang is smooth again," he said.

Also accompanying him in the review was PPLS Head T. Maksal Saputra. (Yul)
