Minister of Public Works, Minister of Social Affairs, and Cabinet Secretary Ensure Public School Renovation Phase I Completed by July 2025
Jakarta - Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo confirmed that the renovation and construction of the People's School Phase I will be completed by July 2025. This strategic project is a follow-up to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025 which aims to provide quality education for Indonesian children, especially from poor and extreme poor families.
"We continue to ensure that the renovation progress is on schedule. Nationally, the renovation of the People's School Phase I has reached 83 percent. For Sekolah Rakyat in Sentra Handayani, East Jakarta, the physical progress has reached 92 percent. Other locations have reached an average of 88 to 90 percent," Minister Dody said during a gathering with parents and prospective students of the Phase I People's School in Sentra Handayani, East Jakarta, Sunday (29/6/2025).
Minister Dody explained that the Ministry of Public Works through the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure has allocated a budget of around Rp1 trillion for the renovation of 200 Phase I Public Schools spread throughout Indonesia. In addition, the Ministry of Public Works is also preparing for the construction of Phase II People's Schools.
“For Sekolah Rakyat Phase II, we are verifying the feasibility of the location one by one, which will later absorb thousands of workers,” said Minister Dody.
Minister Dody also revealed that the biggest challenge in this project is the procurement of customized furniture, which takes longer than the physical process.
“To accelerate Phase II, we even started the procurement of furniture earlier before the physical construction was carried out,” he added.
Minister of Social Affairs Syaifullah Yusuf expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Public Works' full support in the implementation of fast and efficient renovations.
"I salute the commitment of the Ministry of Public Works who worked intensively, even up to 24 hours in shifts over the past two months. Each renovation point involved more than 100 workers. This shows the seriousness of us together in realizing the People's School," said Minister Syaifullah.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasized that this cross-ministerial collaboration is a tangible manifestation of the government's commitment to a more prosperous and quality future for Indonesian children.
"Sekolah Rakyat is designed to ensure children get quality education for a better future. We are very optimistic that this collaboration will receive broad support from the community," Teddy said. (May)
